Rev. William “Bill” Rice


    BURLINGTON — The Rev. William “Bill” Rice, 72, of Burlington, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 12, 2010. He was a faithful servant of the Lord Jesus Christ, a beloved husband and loving father and grandfather. He was pastor of Shady Grove Baptist Church in Staley, N.C. for eight years and served as interim pastor in several area churches. In 1998, he became a full time evangelist. Rev. Rice served the past three years as President of the North Carolina Vocational Evangelists. He had his own ministry called Bill Rice Ministries Inc.
    The service to celebrate his life will be conducted at Glen Hope Baptist Church, 911 North Avenue, Burlington, N.C. on Friday, January 15, 2010 at 11 a.m. by the Rev. Larry Redding, the Rev. Robert Stephenson and the Rev. H. Wade Rice. Interment will be at 2 p.m. at Shady Grove Baptist Church in Staley, N.C. following the service.
    The family will receive friends at Glen Hope Baptist Church on Thursday, January 14, 2010, from 6 until 8 p.m. At other times they will be at the residence.
    Rev. Rice was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Lucille Andrews Rice. He is survived by his wife, Sandra Russell Rice; and two children, Debra S. Robertson of Graham and Sergeant Major W. Christopher Rice and wife Christi of Camp Lejeune, N.C. He is also survived by five sisters, Mrs. Sylvia (Mack) Richardson, Mrs. Mary (Dink) Walker of Burlington, Mrs. Hilda (William) Davis of Hillsborough, Mrs. Betty (Con) Puckett of Macclenny, Florida and Mrs. Penny (Jim) Hatch of Burlington; two brothers, the Rev. H. Wade (Toni) Rice of Whitsett and Mr. J. Harold (Lu Ann) Rice of Burlington; and four grandchildren.
    In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Bill Rice Ministries Inc., P.O. Box 5153, Burlington, N.C. 27216, or Glen Hope Baptist Church, 911 North Avenue, Burlington, N.C. 27217, or The Gideon International, P.O. Box 5073, Burlington, N.C. 27216-5073, or to the American Cancer Society, 4-A Oak Branch Drive, Greensboro, N.C. 27407.
