Christine Oakley Mooneyham
BURLINGTON — Mrs. Christine Oakley Mooneyham, 76, of 510 Logan Street, Burlington, died at her residence on Thursday, April 17, 2008 at 2 a.m.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of Wayne Mooneyham, who survives, and the daughter of Issac W. Oakley and Ethel Long Oakley, both deceased. She was a graduate of Elon High School. Mrs. Mooneyham retired from Morningstar Mini Storage and was a bookkeeper for many years. She was of the Methodist faith until becoming a charter member of St. John’s United Church of Christ. She was active in the music program serving as pianist, organist and choir director as well as Sunday school teacher, Den Mother, Assistant Brownie leader, Girl Scout leader and active in the Women’s Guild. Later, she became a member of The First Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, where she served as a choir member, pianist, organist, member of the Hand Bell Choir and occasionally a Sunday school teacher.
In addition to her husband of the home, survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Anna M. Teague and husband, Randy, of Cameron and Mrs. Tina M. Cheek and husband, Terry, of Burlington; two sons, Mr. Tommy Mooneyham and wife, Cathy, of Elon and Mr. Jeff Mooneyham and wife, Linda, of Elon; nine grandchildren, Heather M. Denny, Melissa Mooneyham, Nick Mooneyham, Matt Mooneyham, Michael Teague, David Teague, Chris Teague, Tanner Cheek and Shannon Cheek; two great-grandchildren, Landon Denny and Will Denny; one brother, Mr. Thomas Oakley and wife, Nell, of Burlington; and a special nephew, Mr. David Mooneyham and wife, Sandra, and their daughter, Ashley of Advance.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Winfred Oakley; and three sisters, Myrtle Warren, Florence Williamson and Gladys Andrews.
A memorial service will be conducted at the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Burlington on Saturday, April 19, 2008 at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Tim Robinson.
The family will receive friends at the Rich & Thompson Funeral and Cremation Service in Burlington on Saturday immediately following the service, and at other times they will be at the residence.
