David Ray Summers


    ELON — David Ray Summers, 62, of 7166 Tickle Road, passed away on Wednesday, June 15, 2011, at Wesley Long Community Hospital. He was born in Alamance County to the late Lester David and Winona Merritt Summers and was married to the late Linda Denise Barber Summers.
    David was a member of Altamahaw Baptist Church and retired from N.C. DOT after 30 years of service. He enjoyed gardening and restoring old cars. David was a former gokart racing champion and was the crew chief for driver Phil Bryant, who was Super Stock Champion at Ace Speedway in 2003 and 2004.
    He is survived by his sons, Keith Summers of Elon and Kevin Summers of the home; brothers, Wayne (Pam) Summers of Elon, Robert (Delois) Summers of Burlington and Eddie Summers; and several nieces and nephews.
    The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 19, 2011 at Altamahaw Baptist Church by Dr. Steve Tucker with burial to follow at Bethlehem Christian Church Cemetery.
    The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 Saturday evening at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., and at other times at the home.
    Memorials may be made to Altamahaw Baptist Church Building Fund, 3447 Altamahaw Church Street, Elon, NC 27244.
