GIBSONVILLE — Carolyn Malissie Summers Whitaker, age 73, of W. Steele St., passed away Sunday, December 14, 2014 at Hospice Home.
A native of Guilford County, she was the daughter of the late Verlyn Washington Summers and Marguerite Smith Tickle. She was a member of Bethlehem Christian Church, was a waitress at Western Steak House for 20 years and later at Nick’s Cuisine.
Survivors include her children Terry Barber, Tony Barber and wife Regina, Bradley “Brad” Barber and wife Dana, Rodney “Rod” Barber and wife Tracie, James “Jimmy” Whitaker and wife Kellie; 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; siblings, Daryl Tickle and wife Marie, Glenda Madren, husband Jack and Jo Ann Satterfield, and Gail Fowler. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Loretta Moss.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm Wednesday, December 17, 2014 in the Bethlehem Christian Church in Elon by Rev. Todd Felkel and Rev. Dave Gilbert. Interment will follow in Bethlehem Christian Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Whitaker will remain at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory until being taken to the church to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the funeral service. The family will receive friends at Lowe Funeral Home from 6-8 pm Tuesday. At other times the family will be at the home of Rod and Tracie Barber, 3100 Lowe Road, Elon, NC.
Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell; 914 Chapel Hill Rd. Burlington, NC 27215.
