Mr. Ira Boyd Gerringer
    BURLINGTON — Mr. Ira Boyd Gerringer, 88, of 1739 W. Davis St., died at 2:05 p.m. Thursday, March 4, 2004, at The Liberty Commons in Burlington after several years of failing health.
    A native of Alamance County, he was the husband for 70 years of Eleanor Hodge Gerringer, who survives, and the son of the late Lymon David Gerringer Sr. and Fannie Ross Gerringer Crouse. He retired from Leath Hosiery as a knitter and enjoyed repairing old and broken bicycles for people and only charging for parts. He was a lifetime member of Shallow Ford United Church of Christ, where he was a member of the Men’s Sunday School Bible class, and served on the church Board of Trustees.
    Survivors other than his wife of the home include two sons, Ira Dean Gerringer and Charles Eddie Gerringer, both of Burlington; three sisters, Ethel Cable, Eva Wyrick, and Ruth Thompson, all of Burlington; six grandchildren, Deanna (Jimmy) Hughes, Donna Greeson, Debbie (Roger) Little, Zachary Dean (Donna) Gerringer, Jenna Carol Gerringer, and Lauren Nanette Gerringer; seven greatgrandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by three brothers, Marvin Gerringer, Everette Gerringer, and L.D. Gerringer Jr.
    The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 7, 2004, at the McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Burlington by Dr. Randall Harvey, pastor of Shallow Ford United Church of Christ. Burial will be in Shallow Ford United Church of Christ cemetery.
    The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday one hour prior to the service.
    Viewing will be at the funeral home beginning at noon today.
