Obituary Online notes for Chalmers Rankin CLAPP Jr.
ELON, NC — Mr. Chalmer R. "C. R." Clapp Jr, 77, of 601 South Williamson Avenue, Elon, died at 1:25 am on Thursday, December 31, 2009, at the Hospice Home in Burlington.
A native of Guilford County, he was the son of Chalmer R. Clapp Sr. and Leola Clapp, both deceased.
He was a veteran of the US Army Military Police, serving during the Korean Conflict.
C. R. was a retired machine operator for P. Lorillard Tobacco Company and was an avid saltwater fisherman.
He was a member of Apples Chapel Christian Church and attended Fellowship Baptist Church.
Survivors include four sons, Randall Clapp (special friend Carol), Timothy Clapp (Nancy), Michael Clapp (Deborah), and Jeffrey Clapp (Lisa); 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Rev. Rosser Lee Clapp (Doris); and one sister, Marilyn Loye.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Joshua.
The funeral service was conducted at 2 pm on Saturday, January 2, 2010, at Fellowship Baptist Church, by Rev. Van Nelson and Rev. Rosser Lee Clapp. Entombment followed at the Mausoleum at Alamance Memorial Park. Mr. Clapp was taken to the church 30 minutes prior to the service to lie in state.
