Betty Mae Kernodle Hensley

May 3, 1920 — Mar 17, 2022

Betty Mae Kernodle Hensley, age 101, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 17, 2022 at the Hospice Home after several weeks of failing health.  A native of Alamance County, she was born May 3, 1920 to the late Charles Robert and Estelle Iseley Kernodle and was the wife of 72 years to the late Russell C. Hensley.
Betty was a lifetime member of Altamahaw Baptist Church, joining in 1939 at the age of 19. It was there she formed many lifelong friendships and touched countless lives while working with the youth and teaching Sunday School.  She was a gifted cook, mostly known for her persimmon pudding.  She enjoyed vegetable gardening, canning, making jellies, knitting, quilting and doing anything that would keep her busy.  She also loved fishing and spending time at the coast with her husband, Russell.
Survivors include her son, Tommy Hensley (Pat); grandsons, Brandon K. Hensley, Chad Hensley (Rachel) and Brent Hensley (Sylvia); great grandchildren, Kyle J. Hensley and Dylan J. Hensley and a son-in-law, Sammy Stallings.  She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, daughter, Jean H. Stallings; sisters, Delia Ray K. Wallace, Bernice K. Terrell, Ruth K. King and a brother, Vestal Kernodle.
A celebration of Betty’s life will be held at 2:00pm on Tuesday, March 22, 2022 at Altamahaw Baptist Church by Dr. Steve Tucker and Pastor Walter Jones with the burial to follow at Alamance Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:45 prior to the service at the church and other times at Tommy’s home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Altamahaw Baptist Church Building Fund at 3445 Altamahaw Church St, Elon, NC 27244 or to AuthoraCare Hospice at 914 Chapel Hill Rd., Burlington, NC 27215.
