Russell C. Hensley
ELON — Russell C. Hensley, age 92, of 1104 North N.C. 87, passed away Sunday, October 19, 2008, at Hospice Home.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Betty Kernodle Hensley and was the son of the late Lew Clifton and Mattie Viola Ingle Hensley. He was co-owner of Hensley Hosiery Mill, a member of Altamahaw Baptist Church, president of the Men’s Sunday school class and an avid hunter and fisherman.
Survivors include his wife of 73 years, Betty Kernodle Hensley; daughter, Jean H. Stallings and husband, Sammy, of Burlington; son Tommy Hensley and wife, Pat, of Elon; grandchildren, Brandon K. Hensley, Chad Hensley and wife, Rachel, and Brent Hensley; sisters, Irene H. Hall and husband, James, of Elon, and Irma H. Foust of Gibsonville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Vernon Hensley, L.A. Hensley, Wade Hensley, J. V. "Jake" Hensley and Clyde "Stock" Hensley.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, October 22, 2008, at the Altamahaw Baptist Church by Dr. Steve Tucker, the Rev. Walter Jones and the Rev. Norman Fargis. Interment will follow in Alamance Memorial Park. Mr. Hensley will remain at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory until taken to the church to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, and at the residence at other times.
