ELON COLLEGE - Final rites for Vernon Sidney Hensley, 46, of Route 1, Elon College, who died Wednesday, was held Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock at Shallowford Altamahaw Baptist Church.
Rev. J. Howard Smith, pastor, conducted the service, assisted by Rev. Harvey Rumfelt. pastor of Ossipee Baptist Church, and Rev. Clyde H. Stanfield, former pastor of the Altamahaw church. Music was provided by the church choir, special solo by Rev. Smith, soloist, and Mrs. Robert Simmons, pianist. Burial was in Shallow ford Christian Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Mack Rainey, Henry Jones, Vestal Kernodle, Steve Ward, Lewis Wilson and Jack Duggins.
Honorary pallbearers were Bobby Joe Adams, L. B. Aldridge, DeWitt Bailey, Edwin Benfield, William Brandon, Richard Brandt, Russell Brannock, Carvey Garrett, Quentin Hall, William Hall, Zeb Heam, Clarence Hooper, Forrest James, Alton Lloyd, Edward Mercer, Joseph Mitchell, Dolan Moss, Bobby Oliver, James Pulliam, Ralph Pyrtlc, Ernest Jones, Marvin Rascoe, Thomas Rascoe, Harvey Rudd, Thomas Ray, Billy Teiry, Howard Williams, H. M. Williams, S. T. Woodson, Michael Spann and Paul McCarthy.
Mrs. Inez Wrenn and Mr. Nora Perdue were in charge of flowers, assisted by Mesdames Bill Miles, ---- Ring, Earl Stanford, Mack Rainey, William Lawrence, Walter Williamson, Jr., Louise Ownes, Pat Rice, Shirley Burton, Cardell McDaniel and Roberta Simmons, and Misses Barbara Newman, Diane Newman, Carol Michael, Betty Jo Lawrence, Gwen Perry, Lula Shoe, Irene Saul, Alice Sykes, Janice Crumpton, Carolyn Massey and Virginia Newman.
